FITNESS GURU vs FITNESS GURU
There’s a good question that is often asked. The question is: how do you choose between different fitness gurus and fitness programs? How do you know the best one to follow? How can you compare and rate them for fitness success for someone like you?
Now, this can be a tough one. But it can be done. Here’s how. For a start, take a step aside and consider a similar problem from a different activity altogether.
An Impressive Performance
For example, an investment guru explains his sensational stock-picking expertise. He can prove it by showing his track record over the last 12 months where 10 picks produced gains of two, three or four times the original investment.
Not bad at all. And you would probably be impressed, wouldn’t you? But armed with this evidence, would you shell-out and buy into his method and subscribe to his tips? Well, maybe you would. But maybe you wouldn’t if you were a little suspicious.
Would You Still Be Impressed?
But would you still be impressed if you found out that this guru usually gave out 20 picks a week? In other words, he needed a thousand shots a year to get his 10 super-picks.
When you know this, his performance as a hot-shot stock-picker doesn’t sound even warm, does it? WHY NOT? The answer is simple. Because his selection of picks still leaves you with the almighty task of picking from his picks - of selecting from his selections! And how do you do that?
In fact, his decent ‘picks’ are so thin on the ground that a chimp or someone armed with a set of darts (arrows) could ‘pick’ just as well from throwing them at the WSJ or FT. Now, maybe the guru is doing pretty well out of marketing his ‘system’. But the reality is that you are no better off by buying into it than you would have been if you’d never heard of it.
Learning The Hard Way
OK. That’s not really true, is it? Not absolutely. Because the experience did at least make you a bit wiser and more cautious.
You did learn something even though it cost you to learn it. The snag is you could be seriously out-of-pocket if you invested in the vast number of his picks that didn’t make it into his top ten. And that’s the most likely route, isn’t it?
A Titanic Lesson
So, the key issue is this: what can you do about this? What’s your next step? What is the lesson to be learned from this type of experience? And how does it help you with the right fitness program?
To start with, the idea of ‘lessons of experience’ is itself tricky. WHY? Well, imagine you survived the sinking of the Titanic. What lesson for the future would you draw from your survival? Here are a few possibilities you might think of:
1. You’ll thank The Lord for your good fortune.
2. You’ll only voyage in the tropics well away from icebergs in future.
3. You’ll check that your next ship has enough lifeboats.
4. You’ll to learn to swim.
5. You’ll never set foot on a ship again.
In other words, different folks can easily draw quite different but ‘right’ lessons from experience tbecause there are tons of possible lessons. The snag with all this is that it still leaves the same tricky old problem of selecting from the selection of ‘lessons of experience’ - especially when the lessons are not all mutually compatible.
Maybe this is why one of the key ‘lessons of history’ is supposed to be that people don’t learn the lessons of history?
Back To Fitness
Naturally, we all have this problem of selecting from different exercises, different workouts, different programs and different gurus. A big clue about the scale of the problem is if this or that guru is selling his or her Simple Secrets of Fitness Success in ‘only’ 12 exclusive CD’s, 6 Manuals, 15 audiocassettes and 4 Workbooks. This is all valued, of course, at over $1,500 but available for you right now at only $497!
Leave aside the blatant spreading out of content to fill as many discs as possible; you’ve still got material overload as well as price overload. So, assuming you’ve been persuaded to part with your cash and rigor mortis hasn’t set in before you can watch, hear or read all the stuff thrown at you, you now need to figure out which bits, if any, might actually work. As with the investment guru, your problem is to select from the selection in the hope of making the right pick that will do the trick.
The Swamp and the Drain
And there’s yet another way to be caught out. Instead of a massive one-off purchase, you can be sucked into a series of buys to grab all those tempting secrets the guru has to offer. This easily ends up as a heck of a commitment. That is, it’s a heck of a commitment for shelling out a heck of a lot of cash because each item you buy only drips out a bit of this and a bit of that.
And you still have that same problem: how to select from the hundreds and even thousands of exercises that can swamp you and drain your cash?
Do You Sincerely Want To Be POOR?
A nicer alternative might be to buy an equivalent set of separate CD’s, audios and/or workbooks from different authors crammed with specialist exercises for your back, your legs, your abs, your shoulders, your arms etc. Problem solved?
Not at all. You’re stuck with exactly the same old problem and same old costs. You might hit lucky and end up fitter - but you’ll certainly be poorer. The worst case is where you end up poorer and you’re still not fit!
All Meat & No Dross
This is where my Fitnessblasting method scores. I don’t bombard you with a ton of exercises for your abs, your arms, your legs and so on, and then leave it up to you to pick what you can out of it. Instead, I give you a program that is all meat and no dross. None of it is filler or padding.
All the exercises are simple. All are critical. All of them work. And you need to do them all.
An EXTRA Advantage
On top of the core exercises of the Fitnessblasting workout, there is another ingredient to the program that you should know about.
This is the system I call Switch Sessions to provide variety in your workouts and prevent any tendency to staleness. They also give your body the healthy surprises you need to maintain momentum in your fitness.
I usually say that when you start-out with Fitnessblasting you should make every third week or so a Switch Session week. In practice, as you develop they should be more frequent. For example, I make sure I mix a Switch Session into my core Fitnessblasting workouts every week.
A SECOND Extra Advantage
A second extra bonus is a 12-month Guarantee. If you follow my coaching instructions and they don’t work for you, I’ll give you your money back.
What I’m saying is that it may be a tremendous recommendation and a truly comforting reassurance to know that this or that star athlete has supposedly used a particular system to their advantage. But in reality every one knows that even if they did use the system it doesn’t mean it will work the same for you. And if it doesn’t work for you, you’ve just shelled out good money to find out the hard way.
I say that if my workouts don’t work for YOU - I’ll give you your money back. And you get a year to test this out. What could be fairer than that?
